Writing
Welcome to my writing. Here you’ll find a collection of articles exploring trauma, nervous system health, mindfulness and embodied approaches to healing.
I'm Shauna Bergh, LMFT, SEP, RYT-500, a somatic psychotherapist, Somatic Experiencing® Practitioner and yoga teacher based in the San Francisco Bay Area. My work brings together psychotherapy, nervous system education, mindfulness and contemplative practices to help people better understand themselves through the wisdom of the body.
Whether you're here for personal growth or professional learning, I hope these articles offer practical tools, fresh perspectives and a deeper understanding of the mind-body connection.
Anxiety can pull us away from the present and into what might happen next. A somatic approach invites us to understand anxiety through the nervous system, bringing attention back to the body and creating opportunities to experience greater safety and regulation.
Attention is often treated as something we should be able to control. This article explores ADHD through a nervous system lens, offering a different way to understand attention and practical ways to support focus without relying on stimulants.
Depression is more than a state of mind. From a somatic perspective, it often reflects the state of the nervous system and body. In this article, I explore how nourishment, movement, sleep and simple body-based practices can gently support mood and help reconnect us with a little more aliveness.
What does it actually mean to say trauma is stored in the body? A somatic perspective on trauma, the nervous system and how the body learns patterns of protection.
Recent criticism of Polyvagal Theory has sparked important conversations. This article explores what has changed, what hasn't and why the nervous system remains central to trauma-informed care.
Yoga is more than movement. It is an invitation to look inward with honesty and compassion, uncovering the patterns that quietly shape how we live, relate and heal.
